28 July, Brest /Corr. BELTA/. “The Belarusian-Chinese Intercultural Communication Centre is scheduled to open at Polessky State University in the 2020/2021 academic year”, Olga Jilevitch, Head of the Department of Intercultural Communications of the Economics And Finance Faculty, informed BELTA correspondent.
The educational and methodical office “The Belarusian-Chinese Intercultural Communication Centre” is being set up in the second building of the University. It is expected to open on 1 October, 2020. The Centre is being established with the support of the Qufu Normal University and the Fujian Normal University, with which Polessky State University has signed agreements on inter-university cooperation. The main aim of the initiative is to improve the educational process and the quality of students' training on the basis of international experience.
“As early as February, we were supposed to have two teachers from China. But the pandemic intervened. So our students were taught online. We will continue this practice in September. We also look forward to the assistance of the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at Belarusian State University, with which the Cooperation Agreement is currently being drawn up”, Olga Jilevitch said.
According to her, the interest in Chinese among the students of Polessky State University is quite high. In the new academic year, it will be followed by 30 students who are studying on several specialties in the Department of Intercultural Communications. The same number of freshmen will start learning the language from scratch. The Summer School for Chinese students, which has been operating at the University for two years, has also helped to increase interest in Chinese language and culture at PolesSU.
The centre will have the student education club “The School of Calligraphic Writing”, the Chinese film club and the young Chinese section. Further Chinese language courses are planned for schoolchildren and adults.
