Day of national memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people

On June 22, 1941, at 4 am, without declaring war, Germany attacked the USSR. The Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union against the Nazi invaders began. For 1418 long days and nights, the peoples of the USSR marched towards victory. During the war years, over 2 million people died on Belarusian lands, about 400 thousand people were taken to Germany for forced labor. On the territory of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War, the Nazis created more than 260 death camps and places of mass extermination of people. According to incomplete data, about 1.5 million people died in the camps in Belarus alone. More than 9,000 settlements have been destroyed on the territory of the country. In total, Belarus has lost every third of its inhabitants. On the Day of National Remembrance of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people, employees and students of  Polessky State University took part in a rally and laid flowers at the Mass Grave of the memorial complex to the liberators. Students joined the Republican minute of silence at the exposition "Genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War and in the post-war period", honoring the memory of the fallen in the Great Patriotic War. As part of the Republican Youth Forum "Citadel of Memory", students of Polessky State University took an online part in the round table "Preserve MEMORY! Save the WORLD!", where they discussed issues of patriotic education of youth, cultural and historical heritage and joined the All-Belarusian minute of silence.
