On the initiative of the Pinsk Interdistrict Prosecutor's Office, the “Pinsk and Pinsk District. Genocide", dedicated to the tragic events of the occupation period was published. The book is based on archival materials, eyewitness accounts, and scientific research that provides a deeper understanding of the scale of crimes committed in the region.
Among the authors are representatives of Polessky State University: Associate Professor of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines, Candidate of Historical Sciences Irina Eduardovna Yelenskaya and senior lecturer of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines Leonid Alexandrovich Yaroshevich. Their participation underlines the significant role of the university in preserving historical memory and developing scientific research related to the tragic pages of the history of Polesie.
Irina Eduardovna emphasized that Pinsk had experienced an unprecedented catastrophe: in the first two years of the occupation, half of the city's population was destroyed. "It seems to me that this painful shock is still in the air. We wanted modern people to touch this tragedy with their hearts, to understand how terrible the situation was and how much the Victory gave us, restoring people's right to life," she said.
The publication of the book was an important step in preserving the historical truth and strengthening the memory of the victims of the genocide in Polesie.
