On September 25, an event dedicated to the traditional Chinese festival — the Mid‑Autumn Festival (Zhongqiujie) — was held at the Belarusian‑Chinese Centre for Intercultural Communications. This festival, celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month according to the lunar calendar, symbolizes family unity, gratitude for the harvest, and admiration of the full moon.
During the meeting, Chinese students studying at our university interacted with 4th year students who are learning Chinese. They talked about the traditions and customs associated with the Mid‑Autumn Festival: about the legend of Chang’e and Hou Yi, about how it is customary to give mooncakes (yuebing) with various fillings, light lanterns, and spend time with family. The Belarusian students listened with interest and asked questions, practicing their language skills.
After the cultural exchange, a tasting of Belarusian dishes took place. The Chinese guests tried traditional pancakes, draniki, apples, honey, and Belarusian tea. The atmosphere of the event was warm and friendly, which helped strengthen intercultural ties and mutual understanding between representatives of the two countries.
