On March 26, Polessky State University hosted a local history round table dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding researcher of the history and culture of Brest‑Pinsk Polesie Alexander Lvovich Ilyin.
The moderator of the event, Candidate of Historical Sciences Elena Aleksandrovna Ignatiuk, emphasized that Alexander Lvovich was a unique researcher of Pinsk Polesie, the author of 12 monographs and more than 240 scientific and local history works that have received international recognition. His research was distinguished by its deep spiritual content and attention to the cultural and historical life of the region of the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as to the history of the Orthodox and Catholic Churches of Western Polesie.
The event was attended by former colleagues of the scientist, historians, teachers, poets, clergymen, teachers of Polessky State University and students. The participants shared their memories of working together, discussed the researcher's scientific legacy and his contribution to preserving the cultural memory of the region.
Special attention was paid to the key publications of Alexander Lvovich.
The scientist's personal archive contains many handwritten materials covering almost two centuries of history. The rarest documents he found in the archives of Brest, Grodno, Minsk and St. Petersburg make up a real "golden fund" of the history of the Pinsk region. The memory of Alexander Lvovich Ilyin continues to live in his books, students, and in the names of Polesie figures that he discovered and presented to Belarusian culture.
