According to Igor Karpenko, the Minister of Education, “The volunteer movement is one of the most popular projects among the youth, today thousands of young people throughout Belarus are involved in it”. Volunteering at Polessky State University is represented in various directions. One of the important areas of volunteer activity is the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. However, it is impossible to force a person to live a healthy and harmonious life if he does not want to. But you can help him to realize the responsibility for his life. That is why one of the most effective forms of work for volunteers is peer education.
What is peer education and how does it work? In peer education, the positive influence of peers is used, since peer education volunteers are "equal" in status with their students. That is why they are treated with trust and authority. There is a common cultural and social connection between young people, they "speak the same language", it is easier for them to understand each other's feelings and thoughts.
Since the beginning of the academic year, more than 40 students-volunteers have been trained in our volunteer center, about 50 classes have been held. The 1st year students underwent trainings aimed at the acquaintance and adaptation of freshmen, as well as a series of classes named “Crisis. Ways out” for the students of 1-3 courses.
