Chinese New Year was celebrated at the Belarus-China Intercultural Communication Center on 1 February.
Chinese New Year is based on the lunar calendar – it is celebrated on the second new moon after the winter solstice.
The Black Water Tiger is the Chinese zodiac animal for 2022. The event was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Finance Tatiana Rzhevskaya, Head of the Department of Intercultural Communication Vyacheslav Lozitsky, as well as teachers and students of Polessky State University.
The event was opened by students from China, who told the guests about the traditions of celebrating New Year in China. Master classes in Chinese painting were held during the celebration, and a master class in writing names in Chinese was held by students from China as well.
Chinese New Year is also called the Spring Festival. According to the mythology of China, a monster called Nian comes to all houses the day before the holiday. It eats crops, livestock, and even children. Red colour can protect against the monster, so the people of China hang red lanterns and red patterned paper everywhere. People clean their houses before Chinese New Year as well.
Best wishes to you and your families from all employers and teachers of Polessky State University! Wishing you happiness, wellness, good luck!
