On 15 February, the Republic of Belarus marks the Internationalist Soldiers Remembrance Day. Many compatriots of ours, their families, relatives, friends and comrades are in this or that way linked to the war in Afghanistan. The Internationalist Soldiers Remembrance Day marks not only Afghanistan soldiers, but also all internationalist soldiers who participated in settling military conflicts in the territories of near and far abroad.
An evening to commemorate the internationalist soldiers was held in the study hall of Polessky State University on 14 February.
Over the years, employees of our university Alexandr V. Bagan, Alexandr A. Vakulich, Konstantin Y. Zhadinets, Gennady V. Kondratyuk, Vladimir V. Kozachuk, Vladimir N. Rozanov, Leonid P. Skorina fulfilled their military duty with honor and courage.
The veterans spoke about the ordeals they had overcome, about the courage and stamina of our soldiers, about the need to strengthen the military-patriotic education of today's youth, as well as answered the students' questions.
Vice-rector Mikchal M. Zaranka and the organizers of the meeting, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Intercultural Communication Valentin A. Evstafiev and Deputy Dean on Educational Affairs of the Faculty of Economics and Finance Iryna V. Horysh expressed their gratitude to the guests, wished them good health and presented memorable gifts from the employees and the trade union committee of Polessky State University.
The event ended with a minute's silence and a flower laying ceremony taking place at the memorial commemorating internationalist soldiers.
