How to avoid becoming a victim of cybercrime

Achievements in science and technology, the creation of the worldwide Internet have allowed crime to reach a new level and capture cyberspace.

Now the attacker does not need direct contact with the victim, he can become a threat to every user of the "global web", large corporations and entire states.

Crime in the virtual space is a relatively new phenomenon, but some of the crimes committed in the field of high technologies are the familiar theft, fraud, extortion.

Cybercrime  - illegal activities that are carried out by people using information technology for criminal purposes. Among the main types of cybercrime are distribution of malware, cracking passwords, theft of credit card numbers and other bank details, as well as the dissemination of illegal information using the Internet.

Rules to help you avoid becoming a victim of cybercrime:

keep the card number and PIN codes secret;

do not use one password for all Internet resources;

to your main card in your bank, issue an additional one, which you will pay on the Internet. It will be easy to transfer small amounts of money there, and in case of data compromise, it will be enough just to block it;

regularly check the status of your bank accounts to make sure that there are no “extra” and strange transactions;

set a limit on the amount of debits or transfers in your bank account;

do not transfer money to electronic wallets and mobile phone accounts when paying for purchases, if you are not convinced of the trustworthiness of the person/organization to whom your funds are intended;

do not transfer funds to the accounts of strangers;

do not call back and do not send response SMS if you have received a message about blocking a bank card. Contact the bank servicing your card;

be careful about emails with attached pictures as the files may contain viruses. Only open attachments from senders you know. And always scan attachments for viruses if possible;

do not recklessly click on links contained in spam emails. Make sure the link is correct before clicking on it from an email;

do not fill out forms and questionnaires received by e-mail. It is safe to enter personal data only on secure sites;

beware if you are required to take immediate action or an emergency appears. This could also be a scam. Criminals make you feel anxious in order to make you act quickly and imprudently;

do not publicly post or share personal information.
